There could be more money coming for social services.
The head of the District Social Services Administration Board says it's applying for two provincial funds: the Home For Good program, and the $1 million Innovation, Evidence and Capacity Building Fund for homelessness prevention.
Bill Bradica says Home For Good is expected to distribute $50 million in its first year, $100 million in its second year, and $150 million in its third.
He notes that because the money will be divided up between agencies across the entire province, it's not clear how much we could get.
The Board expects to hear in June whether the applications were successful.
Bradica adds the Board also had less money than usual left over last year, with a levy surplus of $197,000. That's less than 1% of its levy; in previous years, he says, the surplus has been closer to $1 million.
The surplus is being folded into its reserve fund to cover any future deficits. (File Photo)
